SONG: THE FAR PAVILIONS
Not long after the publication of M M Kaye’s bestselling novel, The Far Pavilions, pop-singer Peter Sarstedt, who like Mollie was a child in India, was inspired to write a song about it.
The 45 rpm single was released by Monarch Records Ltd in 1979 and produced by Tim Hollier.
THE FAR PAVILIONS - by Peter Sarstedt
See them blue and deep vermilion
Yonder standing far pavilions
Yonder standing far pavilions
Wherever I go
And whatever I do
The only thing that’s true
Is my love for you
And whatever I am
And whatever I’ll be
A beggar or a king
Juli I will sing to you
See them blue and deep vermilion
Yonder standing far pavilions
Gods are man made by the million
They fade below the far pavilions
They fade below the far pavilions
And I think of the boy
And how he died like a man
The love I held for him
Never was a sin against you
And from our childhood days
We’d been alone in the ground
Never sure who we were
Needing each other
Not saying out loud
You must draw back the veil
Let your beauty shine through
The coming of each day
A brilliant new array to view
So at last fulfil our vision
And ride toward the far pavilions
We have made our great decisions
We ride toward the far pavilions
We ride toward the far pavilions
Together
We ride toward the far pavilions
Together
We ride toward the far pavilions
Together
